The Stakeholder Debate

Stakeholders from organisations or government bodies that work within or across the care and support system - through the provision of services, benefits or allowances, for example - or that represent users of the system have a key role to play in the care and support debate. We want you to join the debate and help shape the future of care and support in England.

In this section you can view and comment on specially commissioned themed articles, download useful information and register for updates about how the debate is progressing.

Themed Debates

We are hosting a series of themed debates for stakeholders throughout 2008. For each theme we have commissioned three papers from stakeholders with expert knowledge.

The aim of the themed debates is to focus on key issues relating to care and support in a thought-provoking way. The papers are downloadable and we are very keen to hear your responses as part of the ongoing debate on the future of care and support in England.

The current debate: joining up care and support in the future

How can we create a new care and support system for England that looks beyond social care to include benefits and allowances, housing, health? Should all services be integrated and to what depth? What obstacles might there be to integration? This debate examines an issue that is fundamental to care and support reform, with papers from three different authors.

Your feedback is a vital part of the debate. If you have read the papers, please let us have your response.

Coming soon: The role of private finance

In the next themed debate we investigate how private finance products could be used to help us achieve a fair, sustainable and affordable care and support system in the future. There are several different types of products that could potentially have a role in helping to fund any future care and support system. While none of these products might offer a total solution, could they be part of the solution?

Stakeholder Information

We want as many organisations as possible to be able to run their own care and support stakeholder events.

Toolkit now available

We now have a toolkit for stakeholder organisations that is designed to help you hold your own care and support stakeholder event. The toolkit comprises a range of materials based on those we developed for regional events, and includes a Powerpoint presentation and discussion stimulus booklet.

This is your chance to increase engagement and raise the profile of the debate among the people who make your organisation what it is. We want as many organisations as possible to be able to run their own care and support stakeholder events. The toolkit is now available - you can follow the link from the downloads area of this page.

Stakeholder Panel

The stakeholder panel will advise on the development of the Green paper that will outline the Government’s plans to change the care and support system. Members of the panel come from a range of organisations with an interest in the care and support system. Panel members will give feedback, advice and guidance throughout the care and support debate.
